Those churches and members who have abandoned the "we're the only ones going to heaven" doctrine are doing some very good things for God's kingdom!Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12349682601677809433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583713897991615701.post-89414161153723555322015-09-30T20:21:59.261-05:002015-09-30T20:21:59.261-05:00It was a good read and I enjoyed many of the concl...It was a good read and I enjoyed many of the conclusions as they have been my own. I know the coc is losing members, not just attenders but also dedicated souls who have supported the church for many years. I don't agree with all the conclusions but the majority I would say your right on. Check out my book "And You Say You Love Me" also a Kindle book. Don't give up on all the members of the church I love and support as change will have to come. Some churches observe it daily, and I believe that would be okay. Ironically, I believe that weekly observance of the Lord's Supper is one strength of churches of Christ. I believe that their insistence that those who don't do it weekly or that those who do it on any day other than Sunday is incorrect. I sure hope this post didn't come across as encouraging monthly or annual or quarterly observance instead of weekly. My point is that using frequency as a litmus test for fellowship is destructive to both the fellowship and the supper.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12349682601677809433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583713897991615701.post-37388220067267466812013-07-07T08:54:20.475-05:002013-07-07T08:54:20.475-05:00My current church observes the Lord's Supper e...My current church observes the Lord's Supper every week ... believing that observing it is a grace and a blessing and an encouragement and furthers sanctification and etc. Not claiming it as litmus for fellowship, but believing that if it is of benefit, why would you observe it less frequently than possible? I went to a baptist church that observed it quarterly. I hated that for two reasons. First, if you happened to miss church one time it was being served, the Lord's Supper then became a bi-annual event ... surely not what Christ had in mind. The reason why they observed it quarterly was that they wanted it to be a solemn occasion and that His table should be approached reverently. But in doing so we missed out on the idea of a feast and a banquet that it also serves to symbolize. The O'Neill'shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08588471312890941720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583713897991615701.post-89472260634380090042013-07-07T08:49:05.765-05:002013-07-07T08:49:05.765-05:00Less heterodox :)Less heterodox :)The O'Neill'shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08588471312890941720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583713897991615701.post-14037197810034515962013-07-07T08:48:31.220-05:002013-07-07T08:48:31.220-05:00If legalism is a form of disobedience, then obedie...If legalism is a form of disobedience, then obedience is not legalism...Douglas WilsonThe O'Neill'shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08588471312890941720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583713897991615701.post-6082719204287291892012-12-19T11:14:46.686-06:002012-12-19T11:14:46.686-06:00Oh yeah... and next year I need to read Heaven Is ...Oh yeah... and next year I need to read Heaven Is For Real by Todd Burpo.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12349682601677809433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583713897991615701.post-10592453760568508742012-12-18T22:31:15.372-06:002012-12-18T22:31:15.372-06:00Thanks to Facebook I have added these books to the...Thanks to Facebook I have added these books to the list next year...
Radical - David Platt
Don't Waste Your Life - John Piper
Desiring God - John Piper
To A Thousand Generations - Douglas Wilson
Forgotten God - Francis Chan
Orthodoxy - G.K. I have taken away references to the fact that fear prevented the servant from doing business. Rather, I have stated that a warped view of God as unreasonable and thinking that serving Him is a hopeless endeavor led to the servant's laziness. I believe this is a common excuse for not serving God, the belief that it is too difficult and that He is impossible to please. And it is just that, an excuse.

The reader points out that if the servant were truly afraid, he would have behaved differently. You portray the servant as one who wants to do right but is paralyzed by his fear. The master exposes him as one who wants to avoid work and wants to use fear as an excuse. Do you see that the master makes the case that if the servant truly feared he would have behaved differently than he did? In other word, he is calling his bluff. He is a lazy servant and wants to make his inaction sound better by appealing to fear. There is a fear that must be cast out but it is not the kind of fear that says if I don't do what God says I will be lost."Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12349682601677809433noreply@blogger.com
